087: Talk Like TED: 3 Secrets to Radically Improve Your Presentations | with Carmine Gallo

Today TED talks are viewed more than two million times a day and have become the gold standard in public speaking and presentation skills. Carmine Gallo is communication coach for some of the world’s most admired brands, including Intel, Coca-Cola, Cisco, Google, Disney, and more. He writes the Forbes.com column “My Communications Coach.” He’s the author of seven books, including the recent bestseller, The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs.

Carmine’s latest book is Talk Like TED: The 9 Public-Speaking Secrets of the World’s Top Minds. Carmine studied over 500 TED talks and interviewed scores of TED speakers, as well as leading researchers in the fields of neuroscience and communication.     Really enjoyed this one. As you know, I’m a big believer in brevity. I think there’s HUGE value in even shorter presentation. I recently had to speak to a church on our mission and I did it in less than 3 minutes. No, not as thorough as a TED talk, but it made the point in a powerful way.

    I’m sorry that this is a message you did not expect to receive.. I’m a freelance audio producer from China and I came across your podcast on iTunes today. Do you need someone to produce your show for you so that you could free up your time and focus on creating great content? What I do is take your raw recording, edit out parts that you don’t want, mix in your intro, outro, music, etc., normalize volume level and add ID3 tag.     P.S. Mic tip: pointing the mic directly at your face causes the most plosives as the puffs of air some letters make will go straight from your mouth. Pivot the mic around your mouth so you are talking past the mic instead of into the mic :)
